The
Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organisation (ACTO) accepted an invitation issued by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport of the Republic of Guyana to attend
Carifesta X, being hosted by Guyana.
ACTO was represented by Mr. Donald Sinclair, Coordinator for Tourism, Transport, Infrastructure and Communication.
The organisation used the opportunity of the Caribbean´s largest cultural event to mount an institutional stand to showcase the Destination Amazonia Year 2009 initiative. Hundreds of curious visitors from the Caribbean countries, the Caribbean diaspora and farther afield visited the ACTO stand to enquire about the Destination Amazonia Year 2009 initiative, to ask about possible tours to the Amazon and about the special events being planned in the Amazon Member Countries for 2009.
Because of the large number of cultural events being planned by those Member Countries as part of their 2009 Calendar, the Carifesta environment was a very favourable one in which to present the Destination Amazonia Year 2009 initiative and the audience was readily able to identify with its objectives.
